Job Title: Maintenance Engineer
Location: Outskirts of Newmarket, Suffolk
Type: Full-time, Permanent (Monday to Friday)
Salary: £50,000 - £52,000 per annum

Compass Point Recruitment is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join our client's small but growing team. This role focuses on chemical products and associated processes and is a critical position within the business.

You will play a key role in ensuring the continuous operation of production facilities while maintaining high standards of quality control, health & safety, and environmental compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Carry out maintenance, servicing, and associated administrative tasks as directed by the Maintenance Lead to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by completing task-based risk assessments and ensuring compliance with all company health, safety, and welfare procedures.
  • Support cross-functional departments to ensure work priorities are aligned and client expectations are consistently met.
  • Liaise with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure maintenance requirements are clearly understood and completed within agreed timescales.
  • Build strong working relationships and foster confidence among colleagues, contractors, and external partners.
  • Provide hands-on support to the Maintenance Lead with both routine and non-routine fault finding and problem-solving.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as required to support the needs of the business.

Experience & Skills:
  • Previous experience working in a maintenance environment within chemical or potentially explosive atmospheres.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation such as electrical and building drawings (desirable but not essential).
  • Experience working with hazardous chemicals and minerals, with a clear understanding of associated risks.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Strong awareness of relevant health and safety regulations, including working at height, handling dangerous substances, and working in explosive environments.
