Ve Day 80th

VE Day – 80th Anniversary
Thursday, 8th May 2025

Today, we mark 80 years since VE Day—Victory in Europe Day—a time when people across Britain and the world came together to celebrate the end of the Second World War in Europe. It was a moment of relief, reflection, and rebuilding after years of hardship.

As we look back, we remember not just the victory, but the resilience, courage, and hope that followed. From those difficult times, many of the things we now value most began to take shape:

  • The NHS – A new vision for healthcare, offering free medical support to everyone, no matter their background.

  • The Welfare State – A commitment to care for people in times of need, tackling poverty, unemployment and inequality.

  • Welcoming Workers from Abroad – With labour in short supply, the UK opened its doors to people from Europe, Ireland and the Commonwealth, whose contributions helped rebuild the nation.

  • Rising Employment – A surge in job opportunities supported families and communities across the country, even in the face of material shortages.

At Compass Point Recruitment, we’re pausing to reflect on this important day. We’re grateful for the generations before us who helped shape the world we live in, and we carry their lessons with us.

Lest we forget.
