Job Title: Maintenance Engineer
Location: Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: Up to £50,000 + overtime

Compass Point Recruitment is partnering with a well-established manufacturing business in Bury St Edmunds to recruit a Maintenance Engineer with a strong mechanical bias. This is a hands-on role focused on maintaining and repairing production and utility equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation within a high-volume manufacturing environment.

You'll join a proactive and experienced engineering team where mechanical expertise plays a key role in minimising downtime and driving continuous improvement.

Shift Pattern:
This role operates on a Panama shift pattern, rotating between days and nights. A full annual shift rota is provided in advance, allowing you to plan your time effectively.
• 12-hour shifts
• Excellent work-life balance - effectively around 50% of the year off when accounting for rest days and holidays

Key Responsibilities:
  • Carry out planned preventative and reactive mechanical maintenance across all production and utility equipment
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical faults on conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, motors, bearings, hydraulics, and pneumatic systems
  • Support electrical fault-finding where required as part of a multi-skilled maintenance team
  • Assist with the installation, commissioning, and continuous improvement of new and existing machinery
  • Accurately record maintenance activities, breakdowns, and corrective actions
  • Actively participate in the BOPEX / continuous improvement programme
  • Ensure full compliance with site safety procedures, regulations, and company policies
  • Identify, report, and stop unsafe operations, using PPE as required

Skills & Experience Required:
  • Proven experience working as a Maintenance Engineer in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment
  • (e.g. product handling, conveying systems, elevating equipment)
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding skills with hands-on repair experience
  • Background in hydraulics, pneumatics, rotating equipment, and mechanical assemblies
  • Relevant mechanical qualifications
  • (NVQ, HNC/HND, or apprenticeship-trained in Mechanical Engineering or Maintenance)
  • Experience working continental or 12-hour shift patterns is advantageous
  • Practical, safety-focused, and methodical approach to maintenance engineering
