Compass Point Recruitment are proud to be working with a local manufacturer on the recruitment of an Operations Manager to join their growing team.

The purpose of this role is to support the Operations Director in developing and delivering the annual Operations Plan which will incorporate working with the manufacturing teams and employees in setting and achieving the goals and objectives in terms of productivity, safety, quality, service, financial goals and process consistency.

The role encompasses developing HR, Health & Safety and ISO monitoring functions as well as providing support with maintaining office/factory facilities and supplies.

Responsibilities & Duties

As the Operations Manager you will:

  • work with the Operations Director to ensure compliance with and embedding of ISO standards, and any other industry accreditation, legislation or regulations as part of this
  • carrying out ISO audits and delivering relevant training as part of this in order to drive quality improvements where possible
  • work with the Operations Director to develop internal standards and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across the business, in order to achieve high quality products and excellent service that is both sustainable and profitable
  • work across the business to identify processes to drive efficiency and productivity in line with lean manufacturing techniques
  • work with the Operations Director to design and implement training and development plans, and a performance management process for all staff
  • manage the day-to-day HR function, including reviewing policies, maintaining staff records securely and process annual leave and sickness requests/forms
  • manage all aspects of Health and Safety within the building on a day-to-day basis, delivering training and upgrading process where necessary to ensure compliance with regulation and cultural standards
  • Review H&S policy with Directors, ensure that any changes in guidance or legislation are included in the policy and adopted by the company
  • Ensure equipment inspections completed in line with company requirements
  • maintain record of service contracts and inspections
  • act as Fire Marshal and ensure fire regulations and policy in place and regular fire drills, alarm tests are completed
  • support with the implementation and development of new and existing IT systems to ensure maximum engagement and productivity
  • manage fleet and facilities (electricity contract, insurance etc), liaising with utility companies as required
  • order office supplies and factory consumables where required


Qualities, Qualifications & Skills:

We would like to see: -
  • Experience of managing and delivering the requirements of ISO9001 and ISO1400 within a company
  • Experience of Lean Manufacturing theory and process - qualifications in this would be beneficial
  • Experience of overseeing HR and of designing and implementing training and development programmes - qualifications in this would be beneficial
  • Experience of overseeing and managing Health & Safety processes within an organisation
  • A good background and knowledge of working in a manufacturing
  • A proven ability to assisting in driving production - reviewing efficiencies and developing process and process control (complete view of all business operations and workflow processes)
  • Confidence to communicate effectively to all employees at all levels in the business
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to forge relationships easily
  • The initiative to react quickly when a situation arises
  • An enthusiasm and passionate energy to work as part of a team, but also be able to use your initiative to work independently
  • A positive attitude to learning and development
  • Capability to manage multiple projects and successfully prioritise your workload
  • Attention to detail and ability to complete paperwork accurately
  • Someone who takes pride in their presentation, and can demonstrate tidiness and organisational skills
  • An eagerness to solve problems and look at challenges with a positive outlook
  • Strong computer skills with a preference in Microsoft Office and a forward thinking approach to technology
