This East of England based, multi-branch Accountancy Firm are seeking an experienced Assistant Manager/Manager to join their St Ives office.

Joining this professional, friendly, sociable organisation, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients providing high quality compliance services for a range of private clients including high net worth individuals, directors of small and medium sized companies and trustees.

This varied role, where no 2 days will be the same will encompass Audit and Accounting, Business Development and Client Management, Tax Compliance, VAT and Payroll responsibilities.

Specifically you will be responsible for:

Providing accounting services including corporate and personal tax returns and special services for a portfolio of clients with annual fees in excess of £100,000
Providing projections and forecasting information
Consolidations
Producing VAT returns and providing an in depth knowledge and advice service to clients
Managing budgets and compliance processes
Utilising a variety of paperless software applications
Preparing budgets for accounts work
Raising bills
Liaising with clients for debt recovery as required

Additionally you will be:

Managing your own portfolio of clients
Managing and developing client relationships, including regular client contact by telephone, meetings and electronically
Identifying opportunities for additional services
Playing an active role in raising the profile of the business
Displaying a confident, accurate and reliable accounting knowledge when interacting with clients, presenting ideas and implementing strategies
Actively engaging with senior staff / partners to gain a good understanding of the business
Understanding, engaging and assisting with the marketing activities of the business
Attending local networking events as required
Liaising directly with business owners and accounts staff
Reviewing and finalise client records to draft accounts stage, completed file sections and cross referencing schedules and completed work programmes and administration paperwork
Attending client's premises and assisting with audit when required

On the Tax Compliance, VAT and Payroll side, you will be:

Reviewing completed VAT return forms
Communicating with clients when VAT return is complete and submit to HMRC
Reviewing self-assessment tax returns, business and partnership tax returns to include detailed capital gains computations and review of schedules of income from property
Reviewing information on a computerised tax software to produce returns and calculations above
Reviewing P11D and other payroll advice and services
Reviewing payroll processed on behalf of clients to strict deadlines
Reviewing submitted FPS and EPS as required

As for Company Secretarial, you will be:

Reviewing submitted Annual Returns and other submitted Companies House forms
Reviewing company secretarial work and statutory books as required

In terms of staff management, you will be:

Reviewing the work of junior staff, ensuring quality in compliance with professional standards/requirements
Delegating tasks effectively
Ensuring Partner decisions on staff are promptly implemented
Ensuring staff motivation and loyalty is maintained to minimise staff turnover
Ensuring effective communication systems between management and staff are established and disseminated to all staff in the company to ensure coherence and a positive team spirit
Monitoring and encouraging improvements towards standards of work via guidance, coaching and mentoring.
Encouraging/fostering a culture of continuous development

At Manager Level you will additionally be responsible for:

Supervising and controlling completion of audit assignments including assessing internal controls, systems and planning
Reviewing VAT returns as required
Liaising with clients for debt recovery as required
Introducing new clients to the Practice
Reviewing and finalising client's records
Responsible for the recruitment, selection, training and development of direct reports
Conducting annual appraisals and quarterly reviews for all direct reports
Actively manage direct reports in respect of holiday, sickness and general day-to-day management
Highlighting and recommending training requirements for direct reports

To be successful in your application you will have previous experience of the above duties and will be a Qualified Accountant or Finalist.

You will have good IT skills and be a team player, working in a deadline driven but fun environment.
