We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Assistant Procurement Manager to join a leading grower and distributor of Fresh produe to the retail and non retail supply base. The ideal candidate will have some previous buying experience or be a graduate with a placement year spent in a procurement/buying element. You must be happy to work in a fast-paced environment. Due to the location of the role, access to your own transport is essential.

What does the job involve?

The Assistant Procurement Manager will be responsible for supporting the Procurement Manager with the procuring of product and consumables cost effectively, whilst ensuring excellent availability and minimal waste, without any compromise on quality.

Reporting to the Procurement Manager the key responsibilities of the role include:
•Assisting with the ordering and stock management of packaging the products
•Procuring in both a cost efficient and ethical way
•Supplier selection and management
•Collating monthly expenditure reports
•Document management
•Trialling product for customers when required
•Managing Valpack procedures, ensuring compliance with Packaging Waste Regulations
•Conducting claims and weight returns procedures
•Following customs clearance processes
•Conducting the ordering, stock management, de-hiring and booking of transport for trays & pallets
•Reviewing & approving artwork for packaging

Key Skills / Experience

•IT Literate (Word, Excel)
•Knowledge and experience with electronic procurement systems (Packstar is desirable)
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•Proven track record in negotiation and supply relationship management
•Experience of vetting suppliers and analysing supplier contracts
•Previous procurement experience in a produce environment
•Previous experience in a farming or food manufacturing business is advantageous
