Let’s not beat about the bush, it can be tough writing a ‘stand out’ CV. You’re faced with endless lists of Do’s and Don’ts – what should you include? What should you leave out? It can be really confusing! Maybe you’re putting together your CV for the first time in preparation for taking that all important first step on the career ladder? Or, maybe you’re brushing off your CV and in need of an update as you contemplate your next move? Either way, there is no doubt, a fantastic CV can be the gateway to that dream job. We have put together some easy to follow tips to get you started.
CV Style and length
The recruiter will quite possibly be sifting through endless CVs and applications so let’s keep it simple and concise so they can get to all the key points quickly and efficiently. Try to keep the CV to a maximum of three pages. Be consistent in your font choice throughout and avoid using unusual font styles which can be distracting and look unprofessional.
It’s good to include a short profile at the top of the CV that sums up your experience and main skills. That way, the recruiter gets a great snapshot of you right from the outset.
Be proud of your achievements
List your job role, company name and include duties and responsibilities you had for each role starting with the current role first, working backwards. Also, include how you have added value in a company and what your greatest achievements are. A future employer will be keen to see what you could potentially bring to their company.
And last but by no means least, don’t forget to include contact details! If you have any questions about CV writing or we can help support you with your job search, our team would love to hear from you 01284 765700 or visit our ‘Contact Us’ page
