CV Hints & Tips
We are all different so nobody can tell you what your perfect CV looks like, but there is no rule saying you can't give yourself 2 pages and generally speaking, the right pattern to follow is:
- Summarise who you are and make some sound professional claims. Quantify results: show what you've done and to what effect
- Use the CV to prove who you are and justify those claims
- Whenever possible avoid using the first person 'I" and 'my" use a more professional form of words. Example: Accomplished sales professional, with a track record of year-on-year over target, achieved even in a declining market place
- Be yourself in your CV writing
- Be funny in person, not on paper
- Less is more - the more you write, the more ammunition you give any interviewer
- Sell your skills, not just your job title - what you did and how
- Be selective with your interests - your hobbies are give-aways about you, so pick ones that will impress
- Check your spellings, if possible get someone to proof read your CV, mistakes jump off the page
- Do not rush it, this is one of the most important documents you will ever write
